This conference is organized by the association Suburbium from Petrovaradin and it is the third conference of this kind, being the usual part of the festival’s program since the festival relocated to Gradić. This time, the conference will be devoted to conservation and improvement of cultural heritage, in accordance with the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
Suburbium is an association from Petrovaradin which has been working successfully on the raising of the awareness of the need to conserve the ruined baroque environment of Gradić, the need that exists because of its historical value but also because of the needs of its residents. The association’s conference and round table “Use of Heritage” will have ten participants, from Novi Sad, Belgrade, Pančevo and Knjaževac, who will present their experiences and research practices, their reflections on the place that the cultural heritage holds in terms of citizens’ values and life, on the need to use it in accordance with sustainable development, on local practices and education of citizens about the value of heritage, on museum practices in heritage digitalization etc.
A special attention will be devoted to the Bač Fortress, which was chosen among 160 European projects and awarded the Europa Nostra Award – 2018 EU Prize for Cultural Heritage. The project by the Provincial Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments “Conservation and Rehabilitation of the Bač Fortress” was also among the 7 Grand Prix laureates, chosen from among this year’s winners. The examples of good practice will include the project by the Museum of Vojvodina “Golden Roman Helmets from the 4th Century”, classified as “Helmets Type Berkasovo” in scientific literature, which were a part of this spring’s big exhibition in Aquileia “Treasure and Emperors – Splendor of the Roman Serbia”. The conference will shed some light on some parts of the architectural heritage of Novi Sad and Petrovaradin (the Almaš Quarter, the Chinese Quarter, the Lower Town of the Petrovaradin Fortress), and some examples of the use of heritage in Serbia and other European countries will be presented.
The conference will be presented in electronic and printed media and on the portal for urban culture and heritage “Korzo”. The coordinator of this project is Bojana Karavidić.
