Ceremonial Parade and a Performance in the Air at the Opening of Gradić Fest

A spectacular concert by the Spanish pianist and performer David Moreno, on Thursday August 30th, at 9 p.m., in front of the Belgrade Gate, will open the 18th Street Musicians Festival – Gradić Fest – which will last till September 1st. Before his performance, the traditional ceremonial parade of citizens and the participants in the festival will take place on the streets of Novi Sad, starting from the square Trg Slobode and leading to the Lower Town of the Petrovaradin Fortress.

The band leading the parade will be the brass orchestra Bandakadabra, from Italy, which brings together the tradition of walking brass orchestras and the current trends in popular music. At their side, there will be the Orchestra Creativa from Portugal, a motley group of members of different ages, who play their own music on improvised instruments made of recycled materials, and who are led by Aleksandar Carić Car. At the rear end of the parade, there will be the band Sambansa from Novi Sad, which has been successfully cultivating Brazilian music and culture for years, and is a unique band of this kind in this region. The streets where the parade will take place will be closed for traffic, as well as the streets of the Lower Town while the festival’s program lasts.

David Moreno’s show, which will follow the parade’s arrival in Gradić, is a show that pushes boundaries of the usual stage performance conception. During his performance, his grand piano floats 6 meters above the stage and enables this innovative artist to be a true star shining high in the sky. This pianist and composer from the heart of Catalonia is a unique artist who searches for inspiration somewhere where music, theatre, dance and cinema meet, and his performance expression is unusual and recognizable. Moreno’s show “Flota Dos” is a performance that leaves no one indifferent, because while he is playing his celestial instrument, the lid of his piano becomes a cinema screen showing a film in which this supreme showman himself participates by performing the soundtrack to the film live and at the same time interacting with the characters and images on screen. Moreno is coming to Gradić Fest via “Plants AiR” residential program of the Foundation “Novi Sad 2021”, within the platform “Kaleidoskop kulture”, whose goal is the citizens’ joint creation of cultural space and cultural programs in Novi Sad.

Within the accompanying program of Gradić Fest, film projections hold a special place as a traditional part of the festival since it relocated to the Lower Town of the Petrovaradin Fortress. This year too, an open-air cinema will be organized for the visitors to Gradić Fest, at the place where once the toll for crossing the bridge was charged, near the ex military pub in Petrovaradin.

Gradić Cinema program will include new cinematic releases of different genres, such as the many times awarded documentary by Mila Turajlić “Druga strana svega” (“The Other Side of Everything”); Kosta Ristić’s debut film, “Banditi u potrazi za mamom” (“Bandits in Search of Mother”); Petar Pašić’s “O bubicama i herojima” (“About Bugs and Heroes”); and the extremely courageous feature film debut of the young Croatian director Igor Bezinović “Kratki izlet” (“A Short Trip”); as well as a number of short films and documentaries by local directors.

Like every year, the entrance to all the film projections within Gradić Cinema, as well as to the rest of the Street Musicians Festival’s program, will be – free.

The Street Musicians Festival – Gradić Fest 2018 – is organized by the Art Association Inbox from Novi Sad, with the sponsorship of the city of Novi Sad and the Provincial Secretariat for Culture and Public Information.
