Regional music documentaries as part of the outdoor cinema near Izlet!

During the 25th Street Musicians Festival on August 28th and 29th, the area near Izlet in the Dunavski park will become an open-air cinema where the films: Suba, moj drug (Suba, my friend), Priča o Subi (The Story of Suba), Grandpa Guru, Sanjalice (Dreamers and Praslovan will be shown.

On the first evening of the festival, the audience will have the opportunity to watch three music documentaries, two of which are dedicated to Novi Sad musician Mitar Subotić Suba. The video Suba – moj drug (Suba – my friend), by Igor Antić, shows a romanticized and slightly imaginary story about this musician.

The documentary film Priča o Subi (The Story of Suba), directed by Andrej Milinković, tells the story of the life of one of the greatest composers, producers and authors from this region, who created in Yugoslavia but also in Brazil.

In addition to Suba’s mother, who is responsible for the realization of the film, since she forwarded all the archive material, Suba’s long-time friends also appear in the film, among them comic book artist and illustrator Zoran Janjetov, drummer Ivan Fece Firči, former music editor of Radio Novi Sad Jovanka Beba Stepanović and others.

The film Grandpa Guru directed by Silvio Mirošničenko shows the work of the band Kultur Shock, with special emphasis on the interesting life, music and art of their singer and frontman Srđan Gino Jevđević.

In the film, we follow Gino’s spiritual journey in search of his own identity and place in the world, after leaving Sarajevo’s war environment and arriving in Seattle, where he met Krist Novoselic from the group Nirvana and Jello Biafra from the band Dead Kennedys, who encouraged him to continue playing music.

On the second festival evening, visitors will have the opportunity to watch the feature-length documentary Sanjalice (Dreamers) about the first female rock and roll band in this region.

Director Vladimir Petrović tells the story of the teenage girls Ljiljana Ilić, Slobodanka Miščević, Ljiljana Pavlica and Snežana Jušković Stajić, who founded VIS Sanjalice in the 1960s and conquered the Yugoslavian music scene.

Feature-length documentary film Praslovan, directed by Slobodan Maksimović, tells about the youth of the musician Zoran Predin in working-class Maribor, the fame and popularity he gained in Yugoslavia with the group Lačni Franz.

Important musicians from Yugoslavia also appear in the film, including Đorđe Balašević, Branko Đurić and Gabi Novak.

The café Izlet is located inside the Dunavski Park in the city center. The place in question was founded by the basketball player Strahinja Milošević, with the desire to build a concept opposite to the usual fast-food establishments that had been previously in that place. The idea was simple and inspiring – grab a coffee and a blanket and enjoy a picnic in the park.

The Street Musicians Festival – Gradić Fest 2025 is organized by the Art Association “Inbox” from Novi Sad, with the patronage of the City of Novi Sad and the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities
