Art and Entertainment at the Suburbium: Open-call Stars from Italy, Romania and Croatia

Trio Fratelli Marelli from Bologna, alternative group Mouse N Monkeyz from Bucharest and the duo Aquarela Maris from Šibenik will lead the attractive lineup of this year’s Street Musicians Festival, held at the Suburbium of Petrovaradin Fortress, from 1st to 3rd September. They, along with around twenty other artistic programs, chosen via the open-call, will emergeat the Festival together with the select street performers from Serbia, the region, and the entire world.

Fratelli Marelli nurture the traditional Italian school of playing in the street, in which musicality and charm are implied, while the repertoire varies from swing and jazz on six or more strings, to the recognizable canzones from Argentina. Aquarela Maris arrive from the other side of the Adriatic, and with guitar and piano at their disposal, bring a more relaxed, almost ambience, lounge music, with a slight twist towards jazz, bossa nova and melodies from Dalmatia at their side. The third name among these headliners is the most original one: Mouse N Monkeyz are a masked quartet cherishing contemporary underground forms of expression, based on indie guitars and electronics, with a touch of hip-hop, while their only hit for now remains “Banana”.

During the open call for performance at the Street Musicians Festival, 24 of the most interesting programs were chosen, from around one hundred applications which arrived during the course of spring. The Artistic Committee of this event, thus, continues its practice of bringing young and independent, but interesting artists from the country and region, for whom the performance at the Festival is a chance to encounter a wider auditorium, and some of best street artists in the world, as well as gain much needed recognition. Their appearance at the Street Musicians Festival was made possible by the partner of this year’s open call – MTS.

Street Musicians Festival is organized by the Art Association “Inbox” from Novi Sad, in partnership with the City of Novi Sad, Tourist Organization of Novi Sad and the Embassy of the United States of America in Belgrade, MTS, and Genrali Insurance Serbia.
