The American ten, <em>Phat Cat Swinger<\/em> played a phenomenal, almost two-hour long concert. Before the Californian masters of swing, in the same place, the audience danced during the performances of the local bands <em>Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra<\/em> and <em>VIS Limunada<\/em>. <strong>There was some dancing to behold in the Courtyard<\/strong>, under umbrellas or the heavens, for over four hours, as the drums and bass called the shots, while the brass and guitar called the tune.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2976\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/01-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"01\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/01.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/01-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Young Belgrade ensemble <strong><em>VIS Limunada<\/em><\/strong>, the six who sent us back to some better (not just) musical times, delighted the festival audience with a number of creative covers of oldies and pop-rock classics. \u201cThank you for persevering in this rain. The next number you will hear is <em>Gromovi u glavi<\/em> (<em>Thunder In The Head<\/em>)\u201d, jested the singer Miodrag Nini\u0107. Beside singing in Serbian, Nini\u0107 also sang in English, Spanish and Italian. The verse <em><strong>con venti quatro mila baci<\/strong><\/em>, as it turned out, everyone in the Courtyard knew well \u2013 and sang and danced to it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2977\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/02-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"02\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/02.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/02-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After them, one member stronger, from Belgrade as well, was the group <em><strong>Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra<\/strong><\/em>. Elegant, black hats and white suspenders, the experienced Dixie crew played <em>for all the swingin\u2019 cats in the crowd<\/em>. The singer <strong>Aleksandra Bijeli\u0107<\/strong> was brilliant in both fast and slow pieces. If we take into consideration how she sang <em>New York, New York<\/em> and <em>Nobody Knows You<\/em>, in all likelihood, a lovelier voice wasn\u2019t heard on this years Festival.<\/p>\n<p><em>Muppet Show<\/em> verses <em><strong>It\u2019s time to play the music, it\u2019s time to light the lights<\/strong><\/em> \u2013 verses which move and don\u2019t let you take the smile off your face \u2013 echoed through the Courtyard last night in Aleksandra\u2019s wonderful voice. After that we heard, as they announced it, <em>the oldest blues in the world<\/em>, and in as the finale to this great concert, the <em>anthem<\/em> of the <em>Belgrade Dixieland Orchestra<\/em> \u2013 the immortal New Orleans\u2019 gospel <strong><em>When The Saints Go Marching In<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2978\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/03-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"03\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/03.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/03-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ten minutes later, the festival stage in the Courtyard was all <strong><em>Phat Cat Swinger<\/em><\/strong>\u2019s, ten strong and from Apple Valley California. What musicians and entertainers! Musicians and entertainers in class by themselves. Equally successful when playing covers (<em>Beyond The Sea<\/em>, <em>I\u2019ve Got You Under My Skin<\/em> or <em>Mack The Knife<\/em>), and when performing original material (<em>Smolie Olie Olie<\/em> and <em>Hep Cats!<\/em>). The sax player <strong>Marco Palos<\/strong>, was noticeably the first among equals, although the audience was attracted more to the virtuosity on six strings by <strong>Eitaro Sako<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Classics <em>Ain\u2019t Got No Home<\/em>, <em>I Wanna Be Like You<\/em>, <em>Peter Gunn<\/em> and <em>Minnie The Moocher<\/em>, played in exactly that (well thought-out) order, turned the Courtyard into a real dance arena. After them came, for the audience, the even more popular <em>Rock This Town<\/em>, <em>Rock Around The Clock<\/em> and <em>Crazy Little Thing Called Love.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2979\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/04-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"04\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/04.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.ulicnisviraci.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/09\/04-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Festival last night had also interesting gigs on Liberty Square. The first to perform was the unusual singer-songwriter <strong>Ilija Ludvig<\/strong>, followed by his talented colleague from Kikinda <strong>Kezz<\/strong>, while the third were the hip-hopers from Gabon <strong><em>Movaizhaleine<\/em><\/strong>. A pleasant surprise was the fact that the African musicians relied more on reggae than hip-hop. The festival stage in Liberty Square last night also hosted the performance from the young Slovenians <strong><em>InSession<\/em><\/strong>.
